A Perfect Version of Myself

Losing Weight is Hard

Fade Away July 30, 2010

I’ve put up a new set of pictures – except I’m still really behind!  I am about ten pounds smaller than the ones I just posted because they were taken about seven weeks ago!

Blame it on my photographer.  My aunt snaps these shots of me and she bought an old house and undertook severe renovations to it.  Then she had to move, so downloading my weight loss shots got stuck on the back-burner.

I can see a huge difference between the last pictures I took and these ones!  I can also see a huge difference between now and these pictures, although part of that might be my hair.  In the seven weeks that has passed since these shots were taken, I cut all my hair off into a pixie cut of sorts.

Of course, I’m going to do my favourite thing right here:

Weight - 308.2 lbs

Weight - 171.2 lbs

Those two shots side by side (or on top of each other as it were) are priceless.

And no, I’m not sure why I look so pissed off in the newest picture.  Maybe because I realized that this was the last time I would be able to tell how much smaller I was by looking at the fireplace behind me, and seeing how much more was revealed by me getting smaller?  The house where these photos were taken was the very same house that my aunt gave up to move to renovation-central so the next pictures will feature a different background.

But I bet you all scrolled back up to look at the fireplace thing – it’s incredible how little you used to be able to see versus what’s been revealed in this most recent picture, isn’t it?

The Update

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tara @ 10:58 pm

I won a giveaway!  I’ve never won a giveaway.  I rarely enter them, that might have something to do with it, but I’ve never won one before so I’m celebrating!

You can read all about the giveaway and how I won right here!  Thank you so much Roni!  With her linking here, the blog has experienced HUGE increase in traffic flow, so welcome to any new readers!  I love new readers, so make yourself right at home!

The prize was $100 in cool cash and I thought a lot about what I wanted to do with my big win.  I thought about giving her the go ahead to donate it to something, but then I thought about what I really wanted to do: host my own giveaway and spread the bloggy love!  So that’s what I’m going to do!  I’m going to use Roni’s $100 to buy a bunch of stuff that I feel has been essential to my weight loss and I’m going to give it away!  Stay tuned for more details next week.

I’ve also been thinking a lot lately about going self-hosted.  I’ve read the extremely awesome instructions Mary has on her blog and I’m thinking it sounds like something I could handle.  I’ve also asked my friend Mike to let me pick his brain should my blog explode during the process (warning: do not click on that link if you are hungry.  He and his fiancée write THE MOST DELICIOUS FOOD BLOG IN THE WORLD).  I’d like to add some content on here, including a better way of food blogging.  I post a lot of my meals on Facebook and lately my friends have been bugging me for the recipes (which are more “throw this food on your plate” deals than actual recipes, but still).  Stay tuned to move with me (I hope)!!

I’ve been having a weird stomach thing the last few days, I get extremely nauseous after lunch.  Not breakfast.  Not dinner.  Just lunch.  I haven’t started eating anything weird at lunch so I’m not sure what this is about.  I almost threw up yesterday, it got that bad.  I’m going to give it till Saturday and then I’ll attempt to get an appointment with my doctor (HA!  HA!  I love how casually I said that – like it’s possible to get in to see my doctor during the summer when she spends less time at work than she does at the cottage).

Have a great week everybody who’s still reading this nuts and bolts post!

A Mistake July 28, 2010

Filed under: Weight Loss Updates — Tara @ 7:34 am

As many of you know, I work a part-time job in a bookstore as well as my regular 9-5 grind.  Last night I got a phone call as I walked in the door that I was supposed to be working!  I ended up being an hour late to work and I had to eat dinner at 9:30 at night.  Hence, no post last night.

I have some exciting stuff to talk about, including a giveaway (one that I won and one that I’m holding) and going self-hosted.  I’ll post again tonight, but in the meantime, I wanted to check in with my weigh in results from yesterday.

I’m down 0.4 lbs.  I was so excited to see that!  And no, I’m not being sarcastic.  I went away for the entire weekend to a cottage and I still lost weight.  I lived a normal life (ie: binge-free) with my friends and I still lost weight.  Coupled with my ginormous weight loss from last week, I feel like I’m doing so awesome these days.  I’m focused and determined and I really feel like nothing can stop me from being a Weight Watchers Member at Goal by my birthday.

Talk soon!

Summer Time July 25, 2010

I’m home from the cottage!  I had a great time – I’ll go into more detail tomorrow, but let’s just say there was boat rides to go for ice cream cones (or frozen yogurt in my case), swimming, mosquito repellent, a 5.5 km run, and a rib-fest.  It was a humdinger of a weekend but I feel victorious.

I tracked every single solitary mouthful of food that entered my lips and while I wasn’t always within my daily points, I used some of my weekly points and still have some to spare!  I feel like that’s an awesome, awesome, awesome thing to be able to say after spending the weekend at the cottage!

I have a ton of stuff to do tonight, including laundry and packing all my crap for tomorrow.  Plus, my grandmother goes in to have her knee replaced tomorrow and I have to get up at 4:30 am to drop her off at the hospital.  I’ll be back to blog tomorrow!

Out on the Weekend July 22, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tara @ 11:27 pm

Just checking in with everyone until Sunday night – I’m headed to a friend’s cottage for the weekend and I’m leaving straight from work, so I won’t have time to post again until I get home.

I’m so prepared to rock the cottage.  I was a little nervous about the idea of going away, what with feeling like I’ve got some momentum behind me again.  But then I sat down and I really thought about it and I came up with….drumroll please….a plan!  A plan to stay on track while I’m away!

First things, I needed a food attack.  I know that I can make a healthy choice at a restaurant en route to Lake Muskoka so that takes care of dinner tomorrow night.  Then, I packed my usual stuff for breakfast and lunch for Saturday and Sunday, leaving only dinner on Saturday night as the wild card.  I bugged gently inquired my friend whose parents own the cottage as to what the protocol would be for this – her response was that she usually cooks dinner for everyone to say “thanks for having me” on Saturday nights.

Perfect!  We made plans to hit up the local grocery store and I think I can totally steer the food into a healthy pathway.  I mean, I cook!  I know how to make the good choices!  I even packed my own healthy snacks and plan to grab fresh fruit while at the above-mentioned grocery store.

I’m not going to drink.  That will be the toughest challenge because lakeside docks and cold beer go together like peanut butter and jelly.  But I make stupid food decisions when I drink so, I’m going to skip that.  I’m also packing my running shoes and plan on running on Saturday morning before everyone gets up and I plan on doing lots of swimming!

I think it’s going to be an active, happy weekend!  I’m going to have fun and stay on track.  You know how I know this to be true?  Because I decided that’s how it’s going to be!  Focus and determination are going to be my best friends this weekend because I’m closing in on goal and I cannot wait.

Have a great weekend everybody!

Creep (Half the Man I Used to Be) July 20, 2010

Filed under: Weight Loss Updates — Tara @ 11:39 pm

I have an enormous headache right now, so I’m going to make this quick and dirty.  I lost 4.8 lbs this week, which is astounding.  I’m guessing the greasy-food binge from last week contained more than fat, I think it probably had a lot of sodium too.

I feel like singing!  Well, not right now because my head really does hurt, but I feel like singing inside!  I have now lost over 50% of my body weight!  I’m less than half the person I used to be!

It’s insane.  It’s hard to even process!

I really do think that blogging every day this week was a huge factor in my success.  I’m going to attempt to keep it up, but I probably won’t manage it EVERY day.  I’m going to aim for five days a week though, I think it’s a good goal, don’t you?

Another thing – the food/water/activity log I tried out this week?  Boring?  Helpful?  You skipped past it so you could care less?  Let me know because I’m undecided as to if I should keep doing it or not.  I think it helped, but it’s kind of pain in the ass so your comments might really sway me either way.
